You can disable zombies being aggressive towards villagers. I have read that you can use MCEDIT to make zombies only aggressive towards green villagers which to me would be a neat feature. :-) I haven't tried. I play bedrock so a quick “/effect @e [type=villagers] resistance 99999 255 true” always works for me.
