Sound-wise, it sounded nothing like the MM StingRay. Even with just the bridge pickup enabled, it was nowhere near. It sounded muddy, sort of boomy instead of the zing of a classic StingRay. Perhaps the single H Sterling StingRay 5 can achieve that tone better, which is what online reviews seem to point to. I was unfortunately disappointed.
5 bolt, sculpted neck joint: Electronic Shielding: Graphite acrylic resin coated body cavity and aluminum control cover: Controls: Sabre Guitar Boost HH Loaded with Pots: Switching: 5-way lever pickup selector: Pickups: HH - 2 Music Manยฎ HT Sabre Humbucker: Strings: 10p-13p-17p-26w-36w-46w (RPS 10 Slinkys #2240) The reason the Sterling HH or HS (or ****, an H) won't nail a Stingray sound is because a Sterling isn't a Stingray, dude. Different pickups. a Stingray HH or HS or H will ALL sound the same when the bridge pup is soloed. That's it. Yeah and I ended up buying the sterling darkray I would almost guarantee I would end up wanting the real thing. My first music man bass was a stingray special 5 HH. My second was a bongo 5 HH, and my third was a stingray special 4H. I got rid of the stingray 5HH back in July. May get a darkray 5 in the future but it will be the real thing. t2rl.
